St. Mark’s Prayer Reef
There is so much to pray about: eleven people lost their lives, shrimpers and oystermen who have fished the Gulf of Mexico for generations can’t fish or their boats are being hired to skim oil, and this is nesting season. The marshes are the birthing grounds for birds, turtles, and juveniles as young fish are called.
The St. Mark’s Prayer Reef is located at the back of the church by the baptismal font. In addition
to a sparkling underwater display, you will find facts about what’s happening in the Gulf, selected prayers,
an opportunity to request specific prayers for the Gulf, handouts, a growing short story, and more. Pick up
a form from Episcopal Relief and Development to make a donation. We invite you to spend some quiet time in church reflecting on the disaster, take home some of the handouts, and we especially invite your creativity. Express your concern for the people, reaction to the problems, or hope for the wildlife in poem, story or artwork.
